hi there..
im from the philippines. im just a novice in this hobby but i have 7 turtles. To whoever owns that exo-terra thing in the video that i just saw, i want you to know that it’s better than sex! I just want to know, how much does the whole thing cost? I just want to know if i can afford something like that.
To the coordinator of this site, thank you very much.
A reply with your name would be very much appreciated.
I forgot..
If it’s not too much, could you please reply to my email?
Thanks a lot..
I have 2 Questions: Do I keep my heat & uv lamp on all of the time with my aquatic turtle? Or do I need to turn them off at some time during the day or night?
Also, how do you tell what sex a turtle is? This must be 1 of the most asked questions!
I throughly enjoyed your website as I have just discovered it.
Thanks!
First off you do not want to keep your heat lamp on all the time because turtles need to sleep but they do need some sort of heat at night because they are cold blooded. I would suggest either a black light heat lamp for night or a water heater. As for sexing your turtle it really depends on the species of turtle you have. There are usually tell tail signs for different breeds.
For most water turtles the signs are:
Male: Long claws on the front feet. A fat tail and longer tail.
You might notice more aggressive tendencies. The cloaca (opening) is closer to the tip of the tail.
Female: Shorter claws. A shorter, thinner tail. females tend to be larger than males.
The cloaca (opening) on the tail is closer to the body.
Help i need to identify my turtle. She came to me way of a teacher in northern Montana. She is 18 years old (as far as I know). She came in a 10 gallon fish tank with a rock. I was told to let her out to roam and return her to the tank at night. I currently live in Lost Creek Montana. I put her in a 4X8 foot cage in my creek. She has access to flowing water and a mud bar with grasses. Half of each part of the tank are shaded. I though she might be a woodland turtle. The reason I need to identify her soon is that the weather is turning colder and I dont knowif I provide her with deeper mud if she will hibernate or if I should take her inside. She hates her fish tank, rightly so, and continually tried to climb out, upending herself. I am afraid I will not be around sometime to save her. Plus I really think she needs a better environment. I have pictures but am not surehow to send them over this forum
Hi. I have some questions. My 8 year old daughter received a red ear turtle and Im not sure what to do with it. It is so cute but it is in a clear dish with a lamp. I believe I need to buy an aquarium but I want to do the right thing for it. Could you please tell me all that I need for the aquarium. Im very confused and have no clue what to buy. Also he has mildew on his shell. We clean his tank weekly and I scrub his shell with a soft toothbrush with peroxide. Doesnt seem to be helping. It is not soft or bleeding just mildew on it. What can I do to fix this problem. Also he is about 6 months old. Thank you very much for your help. sandy
